UPSC- Drug Inspector Exam Scheme and syllabus


I. Scheme of the Test:
  1. (a)  The test will be of two hours duration.
  2. (b)  All questions will carry equal marks.
  3. (c)  The test will be objective type questions with multiple choices of answer.
  4. (d)  The medium of the test will be English only.
  5. (e)  There will be penalty for wrong answers. Every wrong answer will carry a
deduction of one-third of the marks assigned to that question. If no answer is marked for a question, there will be no penalty for that question.
(f) The test will carry a maximum of 300 marks.



II. Syllabus of the Test:
  1. (1)  Basic knowledge in Pharmaceutical Chemistry – Chemistry of Drugs, their uses – Pharmacological and Toxicological effects of Drugs.
  2. (2)  Knowledge in manufacturing and evaluation of Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms.
  3. (3)  Knowledge in Analysis of Drug formulations and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.
  4. (4)  Procedures involved in collection of Blood and preparation of its components.
  1. (9)  Knowledge of Investigational skills.
  2. (10)  Drugs & Cosmetics Act and Rules with respect to Clinical Trials,
    Manufacture, Sale & Import of Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics.
  3. (11)  Basic Principles of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics
  4. (12)  Basic knowledge of Computer Applications
  5. (13)  English Language proficiency.
